For this to work, I need to set down some ground rules. I can write about anything, anything at all. Hence the subtitle “Reflections on Life in a Paragraph”. However, I can only write one paragraph on whatever I discuss—one paragraph! And for all those clever ones among you, yes, I know this introduction is more than one paragraph, but sometimes one is not enough. Only sometimes.
I want to write a book, but I doubt my ability to put together 80,000 words meaningfully; therefore, I need to think smaller. In the past, I have written a few short stories of 200 words each so they could be read in a minute. I think of these as minute tales that could be read in a minute—yes, I’m trying to look clever by playing with the word minute. However, it takes time to include all the necessary elements of a story. So I gave up, and while contemplating what to do, I re-read “First You Write a Sentence” by Joe Moran. The book sparked an idea. Paragraphs: I can write paragraphs.
