Fiction Archive add-on

Fiction Archive Snapshots

Named manuscript states for comparison, selective restoration, portable JSON export and controlled recovery of one complete Work.

Preserve deliberate stages of a manuscript

A snapshot records one parent Work and its active descendants at a deliberate point, such as before a structural edit or after completing a draft.

It is a saved state for comparison and restoration, not a live duplicate manuscript and not a complete WordPress or hosting backup.

At a glance

  • Requires Fiction Archive Core 1.0.16 or later
  • Administration-only add-on
  • One snapshot belongs to one Work
  • Comparison is read-only
  • Restoration requires confirmation
  • Not a complete site backup

Main capabilities

Named snapshots

Capture a Work with a clear name and private note explaining the stage.

Comparison

Identify changed, missing, current-only and matching items without altering the manuscript.

Selective restoration

Choose individual items and data groups to restore after a separate review and confirmation.

Missing-item recreation

Recreate selected missing items when the required parent structure is available.

Match snapshot state

Deliberately move selected current-only items to WordPress Trash when exact-state restoration is enabled.

Portable snapshots

Export and import a private JSON snapshot with cross-site matching and remapping controls.

Snapshots complement Core backup

Use Core JSON backup for the current Fiction Archive data and a hosting or database backup for the complete site. Snapshots are best used for named manuscript stages and selective recovery.

  • Create a current backup before restoring important material.
  • Store exported snapshot files privately.
  • Deactivation retains snapshot records for later reactivation.
